From Consulting to Social Impact: Applying Proven Methodologies to Support Serve the City

When organisations grow, complexity grows with them.

Whether in industry, life sciences, energy, the public sector or the nonprofit world, growth inevitably raises questions around governance, collaboration, knowledge sharing and operational efficiency.

This was precisely the challenge faced by Serve the City Belgium, an organisation coordinating more than 3,000 volunteers across three cities and delivering impactful community projects every day.

Through a skills-based volunteering initiative, Intys consultants hadthe opportunity to support Serve the City in strengthening its internalnorganisation and preparing for sustainable growth. Beyond its social impact, the project demonstrated how consulting methodologies can create value far beyond traditional business environments.

A Structured Consulting Approach

To support Serve the City's objectives, the project team applied the same rigorous methodologies used in client engagements across multiple sectors.

The work began with an immersion and diagnostic phase, combining interviews, observations and document reviews to better understand the organisation's realities, challenges and ambitions.

This diagnostic phase allowed the team to identify opportunities for improvement in areas such as governance, communication, knowledge management and organisational structure.

Combining Data, Collaboration and Execution

The project relied on a combination of quantitative and qualitative analysis, stakeholder engagement and collaborative workshops.

Several consulting competencies were mobilised throughout the engagement:

  • Strategic diagnosis and needs assessment
  • Quantitative and qualitative analysis
  • Solution design and prioritisation
  • Agile project management
  • Workshop facilitation and stakeholder management
  • Change management and operational support
  • Impact measurement through KPIs and reporting
  • Teamwork and collaborative problem-solving

Working closely with Serve the City teams and volunteers, consultants facilitated workshops to co-design solutions, prioritise initiatives and validate practical recommendations.

The project also incorporated a data-driven approach, helping define relevant KPIs and identify ways to measure progress and impact over time.

From Ideas to Sustainable Change

Like any successful transformation initiative, the project did not stop at recommendations.

Pilot actions were tested, refined and progressively deployed. Particular attention was given to documentation, knowledge transfer and mentoring to ensure that improvements could be sustained long after the project's completion.

This focus on implementation reflects one of Intys' core beliefs: value is created not only through strategy, but through execution.

Consulting Expertise Creating Impact

For Marie Gontariuk, Project Manager at Intys, working with Serve The City has been a powerful reminder that consulting skills translate across sectors and multiply impact when applied with care.

"What made this project particularly interesting was applying consulting methodologies in a completely different environment. The challenges were familiar: governance, collaboration, knowledge sharing and prioritisation, but the experience reminded us that structured problem-solving can create value far beyond traditional business settings."

The project brought several intyssers together, their expertise, commitment and collaborative mindset helped support Serve the City's mission and future development.

Creating Impact Beyond Business

At Intys, we believe that expertise becomes truly meaningful when it helps organisations achieve their goals and maximise their impact.

This collaboration with Serve the City illustrates how consulting methodologies, operational excellence and human-centred problem-solving can strengthen organisations of all types and sizes.

Because creating impact starts with understanding challenges, structuring solutions and supporting sustainable change.
